2022 Local General Election
The 2022 Local General Election is set for October 15, 2022 where one Mayor and four Councillor positions will be voted in to represent the residents of Gold River for the next four years. The nomination period will begin at 9:00am on August 30, 2022 and will close on September 9, 2022 at 4:00pm. We cannot accept early or late nominations so if you intend on running be sure your paperwork is submitted in a timely fashion.

Electoral Area A and School Board Trustee
For those interested in running for Electoral Area A Director (Strathcona Regional District) or for School Board Trustee (School District 84) the Village will have Nomination packages available for pickup. Nomination packages will also be available at the Strathcona Regional District office for Electoral Area A, and at the School District 84 office. There is one Director position available to represent the area of Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward, and two school board trustee positions available for Electoral Area 1 – Gold River.
Election dates and deadlines will be the same for all three local general elections.
Upcoming Election Dates:

Candidate withdraw deadline (Section 101(1) of the Local Government Act).
September 16, 2022
At 10:00am, names will be drawn by lot to determine the order of names on the ballot. This will take place in Council Chambers for candidates and Official Agents.
September 20, 2022
At 4:00pm, Declaration of Election by Voting or Acclamation (Section 98(2) & 98(3) of the Local Government Act.
October 5, 2022
Advance Voting Opportunity. 8:00am to 8:00pm at the Village Office (499 Muchalat Drive) in Council Chambers.
October 15, 2022
General Voting Day. 8:00am to 8:00pm at the Gerry Morgan Memorial Centre (Arena), 350 Muchalat Drive, in the Community Centre. Preliminary Election results will be given after the polls close.
October 16 – 19, 2022
Declaration of Official Election Results.
October 24, 2022
End of period to apply for a judicial recount (Section 148(3) of the Local Government Act).
October 25, 2022
Start of period to make Oath of Office for a candidate elected by voting.
November 7, 2022
First Council meeting for new Council (Section 124(2)(g) of the Community Charter and Section 4(1) of the Council Procedure Bylaw No. 733, 2022).

Nomination packages need to be received between 9:00am on August 30, 2022 and 4:00pm on September 9, 2022 at the Village Office (499 Muchalat Drive). We recommend handing your nomination package in person so that the Chief Election Officer or the Deputy Chief Election Officer can review your nomination package to ensure everything is in order.
