Village of Gold River paying respect to findings at former residential school

Mayor Brad Unger issued the following statement about the discovery of the remains of 215 children at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School.

“On behalf of the Village of Gold River, we express our sadness and grief over the tragic findings of the remains of 215 children at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Band Residential School.

We would like to express our condolences to all Indigenous Peoples and their families who suffered and died as a result of Canada’s shameful residential school system. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, the communities and all those grieving.

The flags at the Village office are at half-mast in honour of the children who never made it home.”
